It’s with a heavy heart that we’re announcing the (temporary) closure of ViaVia Kigali..

As a young, new business we were not able to cope with the pandemic and all the consequences that it entailed. We’re taking some time to rest and catch our breath.

Hopefully, we’ll come back to you with renewed energy.

To ALL our clients, THANK YOU and see you soon!

Sobre nostros

I fell in love with the country in 2013 when I first set foot on African soil for an internship in children psychiatry. Little did I know how intense and life-changing those 4 months would be. My time there was an emotional rollercoaster, it was though at some points and I just had to come back to see, taste and learn more of this intriguing interesting country and its people. In June 2014, I came back for 18 months and I had the chance to travel all over the country. That is when I learned how strong and resilient the Rwandese are, how peaceful Lake Kivu and how impressive its volcanoes and wildlife.

I got under my skin and never let go.

I was born and raised in Byumba, a small city in the green hills one hour North of Kigali. I studied ‘Journalism and Communication’ in Huye and worked as a sports journalist on radio and TV. Beside journalism there is another – even bigger – passion in my life: volleyball! I’m proud to say that I represented my country in the National Team. I learnt that hard work and teamwork are a recipe for success.

I want to show other people the beauty of my country.

We want to create a warm place where everyone feels welcome. A relaxing spot for those who are on the road, or, when in your own country, a window on the world.

Let us take you on a journey.

Think global, shop local

ViaVia likes to connect people from all over the world, we like to think globally and we dream big.

However, when it comes to shopping, we like to stay local. Very local.
Buying from local shops and working with local artisans benefits the people in the community and their families directly. Not only do we support small shops, vendors at the market, ladies on the street selling fruit & veggies, painters and carpenters, we’re also giving the planet a small break (tiny, but sill..) by reducing the impact on the environment.
How we do this?
. We buy our food at the local market, from ladies selling fruit & veggies on the street, in a local supermarket
. In our menu, we try to avoid expensive, imported produce. You might find some chocolate for our yummie chocolate mousse in our cupboard but when we have the choice, we will always choose the local product
. ALL our furniture (tables, chairs, sofa, beds, night stand, desks, bar, reception,…) are made by a local carpenter with local materials. (It’s for sale. If you want to contribute locally, you know what to do 🙂 )
. We buy local fabric and ask a tailor to make cute and reusable napkins! The vendor and tailor earn some money, we have beautiful napkins and we reduce waste! Win win win!
. We don’t buy plastic bottles but we offer water in carafes. That way we reduce the use of single-use plastics by hundreds per month.
. We stopped buying plastic straws and we invested in metal ones. Stylish and eco-friendly.
. We recycle glass bottles (Bee Light makes beautiful glasses and candle holders) and the bottles that do come in go to Azizi Life Boutique as they use them in their workshops.
. We’ve bought 2 bikes so our staff can do some quick en eco-friendly shopping in the neighbourhood. Plus they get a free workout..
. Last but not least! All our compostable waste goes to.. the compost pile in the garden!
